You guys, I was going to write this week’s Wedding Wednesday post on “dogs in weddings” but I decided at the last minute, I should probably tone the dog themed posts down… for this week at least :) So, today’s post is on incorporating INITIALS into your wedding!
What better way to personalize your special day? Throw a splash of you and your soon-to-be-husband’s initials into the décor, or even just your new-last-name initial! As always, keep your budget in mind. The size and fanciness of some initials could make or break your checkbook. For example, lighting monograms can get a little pricy and so can large moss letters. However, if it’s something you really want and within your budget, then go for it! Don’t worry -- I have some less expensive, totally fun options for brides on a budget as well :)
Now here are a few of those less expensive options I was talking about! DIY wedding décor is becoming more and more popular – not only because it’ll save you some serious $$$ but because it adds a more personal touch to your big day! In addition to DIY, thrifting has also become a new love for brides-to-be. It’s amazing what you can find at flea markets, antique stores, and thrift shops!
Example A: Ribbons and a little decoupage (or paint if you’re super crafty and have steady hands)
Example B: I’m pretty sure you can find all this stuff at craft stores like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. Pick out scrapbook paper to match your wedding colors/motif, trace, cut, and decoupage! Hot glue any small flowers, buttons, or rosettes to add a little oomph!
More Examples:
Yes, that last picture is from our wedding so I am living proof that you can find some wooden letters in a style that you like, slap on a few good coats of paint and… voila! Initial magic, my friends! Oh, and orchids always add a little pop of fun! Don’tcha think??
Or, go thrifting or antiquing and find a steal!
Again, I’ve found A LOT of random letters sitting around antique stores. Call around to sign companies, see if they have any old sample letters laying around that you could use. Or, spray paint. Spray paint can be a beautiful thing (especially in metallic colors!) Lastly, and I’m sure many of you know this by now… Etsy! Etsy has TONS of lovely initial décor.
Initials are a great way to decorate dead space at your ceremony or reception. Use them on the gift or place card table, hanging on trees, or on the backside of you and your man’s chairs. Be creative, have fun, and make it “you!” :)
I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas on initials! What kind of initials do you like? Where would/did you place them at your wedding?
