I watched NASA’s final shuttle launch this morning from the comfort of my own home. While I watched the footage, I thought about some things: the people that were there watching live. Who were these people? Are they native Floridians? Visitors from other countries? Mothers? Grandfathers? Students? It was a beautiful thing to see so many people taking time out of their lives, whatever it was they had planned for that day, and going to watch history instead.
I thought about the people inside the shuttle. Who were they? Fathers? Aunts?
What does it feel like to be throttled into the air at over 2,000 miles per hour knowing that in just over eight minutes you will be out of Earth’s atmosphere and able to look down at your PLANET? It must also be a beautiful thing.
So, between experiencing history from afar and reading Ashley’s post over at The Shine Project, I started thinking about the beautiful things in my life that bring me happiness. Sure, life is tough. Sure, things aren’t perfect and there are those moments where I just want to break down and cry (which happen more often than not lately) but life is still beautiful. So, I want to share some of the things in my life that bring happiness to my soul.
Happiness is…
Family. I know what unconditional love is because of my family. For everything they do, I’m forever grateful and lucky to have them.
Looking over at a sleeping cat. There’s something so precious and peaceful about going about your day and then looking over to see a cat all snuggled up, eyes tightly shut, and head tucked under. The head tucked under is my favorite. That’s when you know they’re really asleep.
Finding a good steal. I am a total bargain shopper and almost always refuse to buy anything full price. So, it definitely makes me happy when I can find something I’ve been needing (like an adorable nude heel I found last weekend) that fits perfectly, looks good, AND is on sale.
Watching Beverly Hills 90210 DVD’s. What? You don’t do it too? One of the first shows I looked up when we got Netflix was this old school hit. I wasn’t allowed to watch it when it originally aired (and now I understand why) but I had a Donna Martin (aka Tori Spelling) Barbie doll and a 90210 lunchbox. The obsession still lives on today. While the episode I watched last night was pretty lame, since it revolved around Brandon and he’s always lame, the outfits, lingo, and Dylan McKay never fail to put a smile on this girl’s face.
And really, I’m just happy to be alive. No matter how hard the day, I’m here, I’m alive, and I know that the hard times make me stronger.
