Back to College

I’m SO excited! Tomorrow I’ll be headed down to my Alma Mater for Homecoming Weekend :) It has been three years since I’ve been on campus so this trip is long-overdue. Here’s a look at some of the past years at Homecoming:

HC2006-1

Homecoming2008

Hmm, yeah there are three years missing but the first two years I was on the sidelines for dance team anyway and my senior year, I couldn’t find any decent pictures. Ah, well! Anyway, I’ll try my best this year to NOT wear my hair half up. Anyone see a trend with that?

My senior year, a bunch of us went on a cruise for Spring Break. Besides us, EVERY other college student was from Florida. So, when we told people we were from Virginia, we constantly were asked, “Oh, which college do you go to? Virginia or VA Tech?”

A) We don’t call the University of Virginia, “Virginia.” We call it UVA.
B) There are other colleges in Virginia besides those two. Crazy.

I went to CNU {Christopher Newport University!} A pretty newish university of about 5,000 students located in Newport News which is about the halfway point between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach aka the best place you could choose to go to college! It also just so happens to be the hometown of this guy:

{via}

Or maybe you recognize him better here…

michael-vick-eagles
{via}

But, hey we won’t get into that. He’s a “local legend.” There’s a reason why they call it Bad Newz, VA, ha.

However, you’d never know it because my school is absolutely gorgeous!

I’ll even share a video of how far my school has come in just 50 years :)

I shall return with more pictures of the newly transformed campus and a ton of shenanigans I’m sure :)

It’s crazy but, being away from college and my college friends really made me realize how much I loved that place. I spent four years of my life there and I’m proud to say it has played a significant role in the woman that I am today. If you can’t already tell, I’m ridiculously excited to get back there this weekend! I’ll be surrounded by friends and beautiful Fall weather near the coast!

--

Speaking of Fall, I’m linking up with Lauren to fill in some blanks!

1.  Nothing says fall like   crisp air and the smell of hot apple cider.

2.  My favorite autumnal tradition is     in the process of being made into a tradition. I used to have traditions when I was younger, like, saving a lot of my Halloween candy and eating it while watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade :)

3.  My favorite fall treat is    anything pumpkin really :) Maybe with a little chocolate too ;)

4. Fall makes me think of    happiness and memories   because    of all the wonderful things I’ve listed here. There’s so much to look forward to! Holidays, yummy food, awesome warm clothes, and curling up with a glass of warm or cold apple cider!

5.  Autumn free form word association, go!    Brisk air, crunchy leaves, warm/rich smells, a forest of colors, harvest, pumpkin.

6.  My go-to outfit in the fall is    dark jeans, brown boots, layers of a long-sleeved shirt, a long sweater and a jacket, with a scarf!

7.  My favorite fall holiday is (Halloween or Thanksgiving)    I’ll probably have to go with Thanksgiving because it means family, delicious food, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Not to mention, it’s a holiday when I truly can look back on all the things I’m grateful for!

--

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful weekend! I can’t wait to report back about Homecoming – too bad my CNU bloggers won’t be there!

Fashionable Fall Foliage

Fall fashion is, by far, my favorite out of all the seasons. Winter is fun for the first little bit, but, if you live in Utah {like I did for the past Winter and a half} you can only walk around in non-snow boots for so long. Spring is fun too but I don’t feel like I can get super creative with my wardrobe. Summer is obviously nice with sundresses and sandals but, other than that, I feel like a lot of Summer clothes can be unflattering, for me, at least. Fall is just the all-around perfect fashion season. Especially if you’re like me and love to layer :)

The color palette suits me and my skin tone fairly well also so, that never hurts. Speaking of color palettes, I’m linking up with {av} over at {long distance loving} to show you an outfit in some of my favorite Fall colors! Fashionable Fall Foliage for Friday’s Fancies! What do ya say, friends? :)

Fall Colors

I saw the casual cotton dress and thought it’d pair perfectly which a nice, rich, heeled boot. It’d work without tights for now since the temps are still pretty mild, but once it’s chillier, I think some warm tights and a nice jacket would look great! I loved the scarf because it reminds me of the beautiful Fall foliage we get here in the DC area! The bracelets are also full of lots of burnt orange and burgundy colors. For the earrings, I had to go with leaves :) Lastly, I ADORE this Michael Kors handbag not only for its shape and texture, but for its beautiful mustard yellow color as well!

--

I’m also linking up with Lauren from The Little Things We Do to fill in some blanks!

1.   The most selfless thing I've ever done was     drive up and down the canyon from Salt Lake to Park City and back twice a day for a week to foster Kip. I didn’t care how much gas those mountains burned, I wanted Kip to have a safe and warm place to cuddle up at night. I haven’t given birth to a child, so I can’t say that. The only part of my body I’ve donated is blood, so I didn’t want to say that. {Eh, that sounds weird} But, I would have done anything for the animals I fostered :) {Read about them here and here!!}

2.   When it comes to working out    I’m now obsessed. Ever since I started going to my Gold’s Gym here in Virginia, I’ve been in love. The equipment is all brand new {I adore the built-in fans} the people who work there are super nice, and the other gym-goers are cool too! I’ve been going 5 days a week and might start making it 6 :)

3.  A woman should always   stand up for herself. Whether she’s standing up to another woman, a man, or even herself, a woman should always remember her worth, and do so with poise.

4. I wish I could   stop talking myself out of my dreams  and then I’d  never have to wonder “what if” again!

5.  A best friend is   the person you’re on a different level with. You connect with them in a way you don’t connect with anyone else. You may not see each other often or talk everyday, but that bond is always there. They’re your rock.

6.  I can't get enough of   jewelry. A lot of girls go to the mall and walk out with bags of clothes. Me? I walk out with jewelry. Bracelets and watches are my current obsession.

7.  This weekend I am   meeting up with the lovely Raquel in DC for my first-ever BLATE!!! The story {and hopefully pictures} to come next week :)

What are your plans? I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! :)

Blazers and Blanks

Happy Friday! I’m excited for this weekend but, more on that later. First, I have to talk to you about my absolute love for BLAZERS! Boyfriend blazers to be exact. If you’ve been following my blog, you know I love the color brown for wardrobe items and I also adore bomber/moto jackets. Well, add blazers to my list of fashion loves. I have been searching everywhere for the perfect brown/khaki/camel colored blazer. Black, navy, grey? Sure, no problem. But, brown? Nowhere. If you know the secret, please, hook a sista up!

Now, thanks to {av} over at {long distance loving} I am able to share with you what my outfit WILL look like when I DO find that brown blazer. You’re probably wondering why I won’t buy this one. Uh, it’s over $100 and I’m a frugal little lass. Without further ado, here’s my fashion masterpiece:

Blazer Bliss

Yes, the mustard top is $400. Don’t worry, I would NEVER spend that much on one little item unless perhaps it was a new camera lens, a plane ticket, or a gift for my one true love, Ryan Gosling. Speaking of Ryan, his new movie opens today :) No big deal, just his THIRD movie currently playing in theatres.

So, aside from that, I will FINALLY be making that trip to the National Zoo this weekend. You better believe I am excited to not only a) Spend time in the city I love most and b) Spend time with my favorite one-year-old but also c) See my beloved cheetahs. Perhaps I’ll even tweet about it?

--

Also, it’s been a while since I’ve linked up with Lauren from The Little Things We Do to fill in some blanks! :)

1.  Something popular that I can't stand/just don't "get" is      why Facebook is still cool. I can no longer stand it/use it.

2.  Something unpopular that I secretly love is    writing everything by hand.

3.  When I've had a bad day I   listen to “Southtown” by P.O.D. super loud in my car and probably treat myself to a candy bar :)

4.  I'd prefer a peppermint mocha    to  a PSL    any day. Ahh, the truth is out. Don’t hate me, PSL lovers!

5.  Something that makes me nervous is    driving on the DC Beltway right where Maryland turns into Virginia. Plain and simple. Nothing but white knuckles and wishing you could simultaneously be looking at your side/rearview mirrors/the road.

6.  Something worth fighting for is     your family.

7.  When people think of me, I hope they think    "she is a spunky, passionate, and funny girl who never stops dreaming & always tries to do what is right.”

--

Maybe you just learned something new about me? I hope you have a lovely weekend and maybe, like me, you’ll be soaking up these last days of warmer temps before Fall is here for good :)

Friday’s Fancies and Some Blanks

What a great way to end a horribly rainy and soggy week here in the DC area! I mean, really… it’s bad. Water rescues going on up the street from my house last night and everything. I’m linking up with {av} over at {long distance loving} for a Fashion Forward outfit this week. I came up with probably one of my favorite outfits thus far. It’s the outfit I’ve been wanting to wear for quite some time now, I just need somewhere to wear it to!

Fashion Forward

Comptoir Des Cotonniers blouse, $175
Miss Selfridge short mini skirt, $30
Lauren by Ralph Lauren sheer stocking, $18
Stiletto pumps
Marc jacobs bag, $1,670
Mixit pearl bangle, $16
Michael Kors Watches oversized watch, $320
18k jewelry, $45
Vanessa Mooney layered chain necklace, $135

I am currently in love with neutrals and taupe just seemed like a perfect match with that crisp, burnt orange color. Perfect for Fall? I vote “yes!” If I were rich and could afford this outfit {ahem, the Marc Jacobs bag alone is $1,670!} I’d probably have to get it in multiple color ensembles. And yes, I do wear two nail colors at once occasionally. I’d paint most nails in the orangey “Alligator Purse” shade and then save the taupe “Chinchilly” for my ring fingers. It’d look rad. Trust me. The gold splashes of accessories just add a whole lot of fun and richness to the outfit. Also, tights with “mini-ish” skirts are all the rage this Fall and I can’t WAIT to start sporting the look!

I’m also linking up with Lauren over at The Little Things We Do for Fill in the Blank Friday! It’s been three weeks since I’ve taken part and I’ve missed it!

1.  Somewhere someone is      thinking of me, duh :)

2.   Pinterest      is/are my muse. I know I’m not alone on this one!

3.  It would suck if      listening to CD’s in the car   was no more, because     I don’t know what I’d do without my mix CD’s. iPod playlists just aren’t the same!

4.  Going down to Richmond this afternoon to spend the weekend with two of my best friends     is/are my favorite thing about today. It’s been TWO YEARS since I’ve had a girls’ weekend!

5.  Life is kind of like    a sunset. Each day is different, each moment passes by faster than we even realize but we still have that beauty in front of us and the hope for tomorrow.

6.  If I could have anything I wanted I would want     true happiness and the promise of a bright and successful future.

7.  A funny thing happened the other day...     Okay, so this didn’t actually HAPPEN the other day {it happened about two years ago} but my friend Jenna & I were reminiscing crying-laughing about it yesterday. I was in Richmond visiting and we were getting ready to go out that night when POP POP POP rings out in the air. I literally dove onto the floor, covering my head, warning everyone to take cover because of the “gunshots.” Jenna, to this day, says they were just fireworks. Mmmhmm suuuure :)

Shooting

True Life: I’m Afraid of Loud Noises. That’s a post for a different day. Please notice the drink still in hand.

Well, my loves. That’s all for this week! I hope for safe travels this weekend and my prayers go out to everyone affected by this flooding as well as the fires in TX. I’m praying for a very, very peaceful weekend for this country.

Fill in the Blank Friday {14}

Happy Friday, everyone! You know that feeling when you just go, go, go and you wonder what it’s going to be like one day when you stop, stop stop? Yeah, that’s me.

I started thinking about Fridays. What Fridays were like as a little kid. What Fridays were like in high school and then in college. What Fridays were like two years ago, two months ago, and what my Friday is like today. Next Friday will be different too. More on that next week. For now, I’m linking up with Lauren over at The Little Things We Do! If you haven’t checked out her blog lately, you have to because she has some adorable and exciting news to share :)

1. My idea of pure perfection would be     having the job, funds, and means to travel to many of the world’s cities with my family and close friends. Talk about making memories to last a lifetime…

2. Compassion     makes the world go 'round.

3.  If it weren't for     music    I’d    probably go insane. I can have it pretty much everywhere I need it. In the car, on a plane, at the gym, in a quiet house.

4.  Bloggers are      some of the most talented, caring, fun, and creative people I’ve ever “met.” I’ll say it again, this community is amazing and I’m so thankful to be a part of it finally.

5.  If I had     won the lottery   I’d buy you    a vacation anywhere you’d like!

6.  I'm glad it's Friday because     it’s been a long, busy, exhausting week and I’m ready to watch all my MTV shows online. That said, if any of you have some suggestions for awesome shows I can find and watch online, let me know! :) I’m bummed that TLC isn’t easily accessible.

7.  Something I'm excited about is      Fall! I’m so excited for brown leather boots, a light jacket, the sound of the crisp leaves skimming the streets, a Styrofoam cup of apple cider in between my hands, and all the colors :) Mmmmm

That’s all for this week! Be sure to check back next week because some of my favorite people ever will be over here guest posting and I couldn’t be more excited! Seriously. It’s a big deal!

Have a beautiful weekend :)

Fill in the Blank Friday {13}

First off, I have been having some SERIOUS issues with my posts being published but NOT showing up on the Reading List or in Google Reader for hours. So, in case you’re not seeing anything from me regularly, feel free to just click on my link and see if I’ve posted anything new, because chances are, I have. Hopefully this is only temporary!

Now, back to the fun things. Happy Friday! I’m doing my first EVER guest post today over on Mrs... T, Naturally! I’d love it if you headed on over to keep me some company and check out her awesome blog! :)

And, as always, I’m linking up with The Little Things We Do for Fill in the Blank Friday!

1.  My most favorite birthday was     my Barbie-themed birthday party! I don’t think it was on my actual birthday but, let me tell you, it was the place to be that Winter! Well, unless you were a guy. Every girl brought their favorite Barbie with them and everywhere you looked it was something Barbie-related. There was even a Barbie ON the cake. When I was about 4 years old I got the pink Barbie Corvette hot wheels and so my parents used the Corvette to hold all the presents as people walked in. Genius!

2.  My worst birthday was     in 1996. It was a big deal guys, because I was turning double digits. DOUBLE DIGITS! In case you don’t really remember, the Blizzard of ‘96 hit the Mid-Atlantic region one January day and we received the worst of it the night before my birthday. That part was pretty cool. However, my mom had been in Houston and ALL the airports were closed. My mom was unable to make it back for my birthday so I spent the whole first half of the day crying and crying. Two of my friends made me some big plate of goodies to try and cheer me up and we eventually just went out and played in the snow. It was still devastating to this little ten year old at the time, ha.

3.  My favorite birthday memory is      from my 21st birthday. I spent the first half of the day at my parents’ house where I opened amazing gifts and talked about how turning 21 is a big deal. Then, I headed back down to college where my boyfriend at the time had set up clues all around his house leading me from present to present. Then, we headed over to my house where my two roommates had decorated the house all in turquoise (my favorite color!) including a turquoise cake and a room FILLED with turquoise balloons! We went out for dinner and drinks that night. Most people were still out of town on Winter Break but just having a few of my favorite people with me was all I could ask for :)

2508196440057676152

4.  The best birthday present I've ever received was     being in San Diego with my family on my birthday. Late night In N Out as the clock struck midnight and then spending the day up in Laguna Beach followed by a night of fun at Joe’s Crab Shack. Perfection!

5.  The  best birthday present I've ever given was     a surprise dinner cruise around DC.

6.  Birthdays are     so special! I think sometimes I get more excited for people’s birthdays than they do haha. It really is that person’s special day so even if they are one of those non-birthday-ers who says it’s just any other day, I want to do whatever I can to make them feel special and important because that’s what they are to me!

7.  My favorite age so far has been     a tie between 21 and 22. I feel like I was truly living life to the fullest in those years. I was working hard, having fun, and had a great group of people around me whether I was at school, at home, or traveling the country for work. It was surreal and I’d love to go back to those years :) Those were the years when I felt most alive.

Oh, birthdays are so much fun! These blanks made me happy! What has your favorite age been so far?

Well, that’s it for now. Check back soon because I’m lucky enough to be doing some MORE guest posting these next few days for some lovely ladies and would love for you to go check them out as well! Have a safe and wonderful weekend. Soak up that Summer sun! :)

Fill in the Blank Friday {12}

I’ve had an insanely hard time coming up with an intro today. I feel like I always say, “Happy Friday” or something similar. Lucky for you, today you’ll get to learn some fun facts about me like how my glorious week has been, what the shoes are that I can’t part with, and that I may or may not be on my way to being a hoarder. I’m linking up with The Little Things We Do for Fill in the Blank Friday! Here we go!

--

1.  My go to outfit for a dress-up occasion like a wedding is     generally something fun, light, and feminine. Either a pastel color, a bright Summery color, floral, or polka dots perhaps!

2.  This week has been     H.E.double hockey sticks… to put it nicely.

3. When it's dinnertime and I'm feeling lazy I'll usually eat     a bowl of Cheerios with a sliced banana or maybe some soup. Before I went vegetarian, I used to LOVE those Healthy Choice Café Steamers! Just pop them in the microwave and they taste way better (and are far more filling) than just your average ole Lean Cuisine. {Speaking of Lean Cuisine… is that really JWoww’s dog’s name?!}

4.  My favorite pair of shoes is     my black Steve Madden wedges. They are sooo comfortable. I could walk 500 miles. The front part of the shoe is all ruffles which I just love! They can be seen here…

DSC_0125

and here…

Vegas-1

5.  A random item that I own that is completely unnecessary, but that I could never part with is     probably something super random like my old high school planners. I’m pretty sure they’re packed away somewhere in my parents’ basement in the “stuff I don’t need but I have to keep anyway” box. Everyone has one or maybe five of those, right?

6.  My favorite person is     favorite? I can’t pick just one!!

7.  If I were going to write my own blank it would say     The one thing that always helps me get through the tough times is

I haven’t decided yet, but I’m kind of feeling like I might be posting on here throughout the weekend, once or twice. So, if you live an exciting life like me and will also be around your computer, come say hi!

Have a lovely weekend, friends!

Fill in the Blank Friday {11}

Happy Friday!!!! I’d be embarrassed to tell you what time I went to bed last night/this morning. It was one of those nights where I decided to log into an old email account and read through random emails from four years ago. It was interesting.  AND today I’m GOING TO THE DENTIST! I don’t normally enjoy the dentist but let’s just say I got a little behind in my 6 month cleanings and scored a sweet LivingSocial deal which means I’m going to have fresh pearly whites in less than 24 hours. Report to come.

Now, it’s time for Fill in the Blank Friday. This week you get to learn some of the basics about moi! I’m linking up with The Little Things We Do!

1.  My favorite color is    turquoise/teal!!!!! I’m obsessed!

2.  My travel destination of choice is     San Francisco if we’re talking about domestic travel. It’s honestly a toss-up with San Diego, but since I’ve been giving SD so much Fill in the Blank love, I’m going with SF! I’ve been to San Francisco a couple times and got a great feel for all that wonderful city has to offer. I appreciate SF for its variety of “districts” yet big city feel with a whole lot of character. Not to mention there is an endless list of things to do there. Endless.

SanFrancicsco

Yes, this is from the opening scene in Full House {my favorite TV show ever} and yes I am wearing white aviators. Don’t judge. This is from 2007-2008. Blonde and tan. Sigh.

I’d choose Austria if we’re talking internationally. I loved everything about that sweet and beautiful country; the people, the views, the culture, and the food. There was something about being there that made me feel home almost. Check out gorgeous Salzburg below!

Salzburg

via

3.  My favorite  food is     seafood, more specifically crab legs and sushi! Crab legs are a real treat for me though since I usually only eat them once a year {on my birthday!} When I’m on the East Coast though with my family, we sure chow down on seafood! “Crabcakes and football! That’s what Maryland does!” Name that movie!

4.  My happy place is     Barnes & Noble. I’m not a book worm but I find total peace just walking into B&N, browsing the shelves, and sitting down with a drink and a stack of books to flip through. If I’m having a bad day or just need to be on my own, that’s where I go. It’s therapy for me!

5.  My favorite saying is    "This above all: to thine own self be true” William Shakespeare from Hamlet. As well as everything Ralph Waldo Emerson has ever said. I adore those two men! There are a few other favorite sayings that I consider to be absolute favorites too.

6.  My dirty little secret is     I have to take medication in order to fly. Have to. Because otherwise, I might literally go into cardiac arrest. Oh, and even with the medication, I still panic. I am starting to panic just thinking about it. Can we change the subject??

7.  Something friends might say about me is that I     am a funny and totally random goof-ball. Was I the class clown? Heck no. I’m quiet and reserved when I first meet you and probably for a couple weeks after that. But, once I’m super comfortable around you, you’ll start hearing all the funny voices I do, and impersonations, and off-the-wall random stuff I come up with.

---

Hopefully you learned a little bit more about the girl behind this blog! So, what do ya say, friends? Who’s coming on a trip to San Francisco or Austria with me? Just don’t make me fly ;)

Fill in the Blank Friday {10}

It’s time to learn more about me and my blanks! I’m glad these blanks revolve around Summer because I know as soon as the icy, blistering cold days hit, I am going to look back at this season with a sigh. I’m linking up with The Little Things We Do, as always :)

Hotel Del

1.  One of my happiest moments ever was     Christmas 2004. Of course, there were the obvious happy moments like the day I graduated from college but I thought I’d choose one that was less obvious. Christmas 2004, I flew out to San Diego with my parents to visit my brother who was living there. It didn’t even matter not waking up with a Christmas tree there that morning because I had my family in one of the most beautiful places in the world. As an added bonus, we went to the Hotel Del Coronado that night to experience the Christmas magic! See above :)

2.  Summer is wedding season and weddings are     beautiful and an event coordinator’s dream :)

3.  This summer     has flown by and I feel like not much has happened. Ahh! I hate the feeling of life passing me by, but I guess we {most of us} have those periods of time in our lives.

4.  My summer food of choice has been     strawberries. I don’t think there has been a time where I don’t have at least one whole container of them in my fridge! I’m not looking forward to the day when I go to the grocery store and see a higher price next to those berries of deliciousness.

5.  My summer uniform has been     Bermuda shorts, sandals, and lots of browns, corals, and golds in my tops and accessories!

6.  If I could spend the entire summer in one location I would choose     San Diego! As much as I love the East Coast and would want to choose there because of my family and friends, I wouldn’t mind staying away from the severe weather and just relaxing on the beach with the Pacific at my feet. And the palm trees. Ohhh, the palm trees!

7.  My summer anthem is    “I Made It” by Kevin Rudolf. Although I haven’t already, this would totally be the song I’d blast in my car with the windows down, sunroof open, and my girls by my side on a warm Summer night :)

WOO HOO for Summer!

This weekend is Pioneer Day here in Utah – the day that “the pioneers arrived in the valley” and, let me tell you, it is HUGE here in Utah. It’s like the 4th of July. Can’t say I could compare the two but hey, here’s to more fireworks this weekend! What are you all up to? I’d love to hear your plans so that I can live vicariously through you :)

Fill in the Blank {9} & Friday’s Fancies

Happy Friday, all! I don’t know about you, but I am SO tired I can hardly keep my eyes open. The midnight showing of the last Harry Potter {on top of fostering kittens!} will do that to ya! Anyone else go see HP? I won’t say too much, but I will say that I was pretty spooked throughout the movie. Those fantasy movies kind of weird me out, but I was a good sport for my HP-fanatic husband.

I’ve kind of got a couple different things going on here today! First, I’m linking up with The Little Things We Do for Fill in the Blank Friday!

1.  I am a (morning, evening, middle of the day person)     evening person, for sure. I can stay up so late at night it’s not even funny. I don’t know how I do it. The night just makes me feel alive.

2.  My favorite Pandora stations are    Ke$ha (don’t judge), Christmas, and my “90’s Jams” playlist. And when I say 90’s Jams I mean exactly what you think I mean. Ace of Base, The Real McCoy, etc. Oh, yes! Do yourself a favor and go start a 90’s playlist right now!

3.  3 of my "must-have" songs for a road trip playlist are     “We R Who We R” by Ke$ha. Okay, so I might have a slight Kesha obsession… “That’s What You Get” by Paramore because it’s one of my favorite songs to sing. Have you sang this song on Rock Band yet? 100% on Expert level for this girl. Just sayin’ ;) Lastly, I’d have to say all of *NSync’s first album. Just know, I LOVE music – Guns N Roses is one of my all-time favorites along with many other classic rock bands. BUT, pop music is so much fun to drive to AND keeps you awake!

4. My favorite pattern is     an ornate pattern for interior design!

5.  My favorite perfume is     Ralph Lauren Romance. Always has been and probably always will be. I’ve had a bunch of people stop and ask me what I was wearing, so I’m thinking I have good taste :) .//.///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll   <--- Just so you know, that’s what my foster kitten had to say. I guess she agrees? She stepped on the keyboard and I thought it was cute :)

6.  Rules are     made for a reason… usually. I’m a pretty cautious person and, if you watched my vlog yesterday, you know I’m scared of everything. So, I don’t run at the pool, don’t park in the handicapped spot, and you better believe I leave the beach when they see lightning!

7.  My most overused phrase or punctuation is     the exclamation mark. If you’ve ever gotten comments or emails from me, just know that I try to hold back on the !!!!’s but it’s very hard! My most overused phrases tend to change. I think right now it is, “anyway…”

I’m also trying out something new this week and linking up with Long Distance Loving for Friday’s Fancies! This week’s outfit theme is “lazy hazy Summer chic!” I figured I’d do something flowy, a nice hat to throw on if needed, and a big bag to toss everything in. I also threw in some matching accessories but, come on, that’s just a given with me :)

Lazy Days of Summer

What is everyone doing this weekend? I’ll be spending some time snuggling with baby kitties and hopefully catching up on sleep. Oh, and watching old school 90210 :) Have a lovely one, my beauties!!

Fill in the Blank Friday {8}

Friday is already here? Holiday weekends’ll do that to ya!

As always, I’m linking up with The Little Things We Do for Fill in the Blank Friday! I’m so happy that she’s created this link-up. It’s a great way to reflect and a great way to get to know other bloggers!

Fill in the Blank

  1. My plans this summer include     spending my days inside hiding from spiders and the sun. The spiders because I’m terrified and the sun because it’s about time to start taking care of this skin of mine! Andddd that’s about it.
  2. The best summer I ever had was     probably the summer of 2007. It was my last summer teaching dance camps {which I still miss}, I had some of the best times with the greatest and craziest friends, and spent a good deal of time at home with family. It was my last official summer in college and it was definitely full of memories and traveling.
  3. Summer is     not as much fun as it used to be? For me, at least. Summers in elementary school were filled with looking forward to the Summer reading list being released, going to the pool every day and playing kickball with the neighborhood kids while waiting to be called in for dinner. Summers in high school were filled with driving for the first time with the windows down, going to the movies with 15 friends, and then hopping around from house to house until your curfew. Summers in college were filled with beach trips every weekend, spending each night out on the patio, and seeing places and states I had never seen before. Looking back, I had such great summers that I’m so grateful for.
  4. My favorite summer food is      strawberries. They go with so much! You can have strawberries on cereal, strawberries on dessert, strawberries in a wrap, strawberries in a drink, or even just strawberries alone! Delicious and healthy and {cheap in the Summer!}
  5. The best way to quench a summer thirst is with     a Shirley Temple :) Or a Bula :) Light, fruity, with a little fizz!
  6. My summer uniform consists of     Bermuda shorts and a short-sleeved top with lots of jewelry and some cute sandals. It’s changed quite drastically within the past two years…
  7. The best thing about summer is     the warm weather after roughly 7 months of Winter in Utah? I don’t know. I have to admit, this Summer doesn’t feel like “Summer” right now. Between the stress I’ve endured for months over the job industry to the relentless longing for home and friends, not a day passes by where I’m content. It’s a heavy subject really and certainly not something I want to drag down this light Summery topic with, but just know that my mind is on untouchable Summer things – like vacationing in a new spot, setting up new patio furniture, going to BBQ’s with friends, or bopping into a museum to get out of the sticky DC humidity. Those are the places my mind ventures to this Summer, knowing they’re so far out of touch.

While I know most people’s fill in the blanks this week will consist of all things sunshine and flip-flops and being carefree, my Summer this year is a little different. But don’t worry, while I’m standing on the sidelines, I’ll be cheering you all on and living vicariously through your vacation, party, and beautiful family festivity pictures :)

The summer does remind me of two things that I love though: salt air and sunsets.

Summer Sunset

Remember, life is a sunset. Each day brings new colors, new images, and moves at a different pace. As the day ends and the sun disappears, we know a new day will soon rise, giving us new opportunities and yet again, a new sunset.

Wishing you all a peaceful and relaxing weekend.

Fill in the Blank Friday {7}

Friday, Friday. You’ve been coming along so quickly lately. I don’t mind it. Sometimes it just scares me though to see how fast life is passing by.

I’m excited for this holiday weekend. Holidays have always been so special to me because they’ve always been a time full of family, friends, food, and fun! (Why do they all start with F’s??) I consider myself a very festive person, no matter the holiday. I even dressed up as the 4th of July for Halloween one year. Yes, seriously!

This year, I made sure to pack the schedule full of 4th of July festivities. We will be starting the day out at an arts festival in an area here called Sugar House. They’ll have arts {duh}, live music, and ethnic food booths! I think I’m most excited for the ethnic food booths! I’ve been saying for years months how badly I want to try more foods from around the world. Well, this just might be my chance.

Then, later that afternoon we will be heading to Liberty Park for the Bula One Love Celebration!

So, first off. What is this Bula thing I’m talking about? I had never heard of it either. According to their website, “Bula” is a functional relaxation drink. Bula’s Pomegranate berry flavor is just what you need to enjoy a calming beverage from the South Pacific. Using hints of Kava root, Valerian root, Rose Hip, and B Vitamins Bula is perfect to help ease life’s tensions.”

Bula

Let’s just say I will DEFINITELY be trying one of those! I loooove pomegranate-anything!

Aside from Bula being the sponsor of this celebration, there will be food {because you can never have too much food on a holiday} fireworks, and live music. Not only will it just be live {reggae} music that will be SO chill to listen to in the background BUT The Wailers will be performing!!! Yeah, mon!

Okay, now it’s time for:

Fireworks

1.  The best news I ever received was     getting into the first college of my choice. I remember getting the first admissions letter in the mail. It was from George Mason University, and as soon as I read the words that were telling me I had been accepted, tears just streamed down my face. It was an overwhelming yet exciting feeling to be accepted into college! Then, soon after, I received a letter from CNU {my alma mater and first choice school} – I shredded that envelope open like a tiger and read the words I had been hoping for. It was wonderful news and a start to an amazing period of my life.

2.  Something I'm looking forward to is     well, I’ve always been one to look forward to things -- Things a week from now or five years down the road. I’m a planner and it just comes naturally, but lately, there haven’t been many big plans to look forward to. No vacations or buying a house in the near future. All I really look forward to is going back to Virginia to be with my family and closest friends. That’s all I want. Not sure when that day’ll come, though.

3.  Something I would never do is     buy cigarettes or ride a motorcycle.

4.  If I could choose someone to be my life coach (famous or not, living or dead), I'd choose     Oprah. Need I say more?

5.  If I had to put a label on my style it would be     casual chic, I suppose. With lots of accessories :)

6.  One should always     wear a seatbelt. Period.

7.  I want to     play Rock Band 2 with my older brother. I feel like this deserves a full blog post. With pictures and perhaps even some video. Never underestimate what this girl can do on the drums :)

As always, you can fill in your own blanks and link-up with The Little Things We Do :)

Well, friends… it’'ll surely be a new kind of 4th of July with some international flair. I wish you all a fun and safe holiday weekend and can’t wait to read about everyone’s festivities, however big or small :)

Fill in the Blank Friday {6}

Fill in the Blank

Happy Friday! Last night was the NBA Draft! I’m not sure how many of you are into sports or basketball but it was a pretty exciting night! As I mentioned, we went to Energy Solutions Arena (where the Utah Jazz play) for the watch party and it was such a blast! Pictures (and video, maybe) to come soon!

Also, before I start filling in my blanks, I wanted to give a shout-out to one of my close friends/sorority sisters (who also just so happens to blog!) Ashlyn over at My Unrehearsed Life! Her Google Friend Connect went whacko and deleted all of her followers :( So, head on over there and check out her awesome blog. She talks about everything from fashion and beauty to health and all that’s going on in this busy time of her life! I just love her and I’m sure you will too!!

Now, let’s get started, shall we? As always, link up with The Little Things We Do if you want to join in on the fun!

1.  The last thing I ate was     an ice cream sandwich that I was forced to eat last night. Seriously, who likes chocolate these days anyway?? ;)

2.  The next thing I'd like to eat is     a nice, juicy grapefruit half sprinkled with a little sugar for breakfast!

3.  The best things     are usually the little things. Like how my cat Stella follows me out into the kitchen every time I walk out there just to be near me and rub against my ankles. Or how it feels to drive around with the sunroof open while the sun is setting.

4.  Something that makes me supremely and utterly happy is     to be in San Diego. I’m telling you, there is something about that part of the world that won’t allow me to be unhappy or bothered. I know the meaning of bliss because of San Diego. Also, to travel with my friends. Some of my favorite memories are from cruises during Spring Break in college. Sigh. Those were the days!

5.  Sports are     AMAZING to watch in person! The adrenaline that pumps during a double-overtime game, the screams and chants going on all around you. I love it! More specifically, I love basketball and football. Baseball games are fun but a lot more chill, usually.

6.  I miss     home. Virginia. DC. The beach. My family. My friends. So, basically this girl needs a trip back to the place where it all makes sense! Oh, and I miss Kip :(

7.  Right now I am     jamming out to “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5. Literally jamming. This may or may not have been going on for over an hour. I like the repeat button. I heard the world premiere of this song on The Voice the other night and loved it. BUT, it gets better. I listened to the actual studio recording and, WOW! The beat is awesome. The song is awesome. I’m linking it for you below!

Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger

That’s all, folks! Enjoy your last June weekend!

Fill in the Blank Friday {5}

Fillintheblank

I can’t believe it’s already Friday! This week has been pretty productive (and bug-filled) but isn’t over yet. Like last Friday, I’ll have my hands full today as I watch a pair of cute little twins. For now though, check out my blanks and if you want, fill out your own and link up with The Little Things We Do!

  1. The last movie I saw was     X-Men. It was a couple days after seeing X-Men: First Class and the X-Men spirit was in the air. I feel like one of these blanks should be, “If I could be an X-Man, I would be ____.” Right?
  2. I want to     travel the world. Well, most of it. There are some places and climates I wouldn’t mind skipping. But I’d love to travel all of Europe. Allll of it! And finally go visit my family in Australia :)
  3. Surprises are     nice if they are well-thought out. I don’t like “Surprise!!!!! Freak thunderstorm in the middle of the night!” I’m a planner and like knowing details ahead of time, but I’m sure I wouldn’t mind a surprise sushi dinner or surprise vacation to Disney World. You follow? ;)
  4. The best accessory is     multiple bracelets. Bracelets are my current accessory obsession. Big, chunky, layered bracelets.
  5. My favorite warm drink is     Herbal peppermint tea. Mmmm, sooo soothing and relaxing! However, in the Winter I’d have to say mint hot chocolate. Do we see a mint trend here?
  6. My favorite cold drink is     Hmmm, technically speaking… probably Shirley Temples. But since it’s a little difficult to get my hands on those on a regular basis, root beer comes in second place. Vanilla root beer if I have the choice.
  7. Currently loving     Nail polish of the same color on all fingers except a different color on the ring finger. Call me crazy, but I’m seeing it more and more. Tried it tonight for the first time. Pictures to come!

I feel like this was my shortest fill in the blank yet because I couldn’t get into too many details. I mean, I could, but how many details do you really need about my peppermint tea?

I wish you all a lovely and fun weekend and if you’re like me and will be getting rain too, I hope you find something to do to stay dry! xoxo

Fill in the Blank Friday {4}

Fillintheblankfriday

I can’t believe it’s already Friday! This week’s Fill in the Blank is all about vacation! Is this where I’m supposed to insert a line about how the weather in Utah still isn’t up to my Summer standards? I think so.

If you haven’t already, fill out your own blanks and link up with The Little Things We Do! It’s fun!

1.  This weekend I'm   going to Park City. Oh my gosh. People go to Park City in the Winter and I’m going in the Spring/Summer. The main reason is because of the outlets up there and the fact that I’ve been hearing nonstop good stuff about the CCO (Cosmetic Company Outlet) and found out we have one here! Hallelujah… I can finally get some discounted MAC!

2.  My last vacation was     Our wedding in La Jolla and our honeymoon on Oahu’s North Shore (with a dash of Honolulu!) Yum. Take me back!

3.  My next vacation will be    home to Virginia? Nothing planned and I’m past due a long stay on the East Coast with my loved ones! (I MISS YOU ALL!!!!)

4.  My favorite way to relax is     lying out on the warm beach with a cool breeze and an awesome iTunes playlist with not a care in the world. A cold, tasty beverage would also be a nice treat!

5.  When vacationing one should always    take a million pictures and visit any interesting places or restaurants unique to that location/culture!

6.  When vacationing one should never     hold back on eating. Go for it! Live it up! Try something new!

7.  The best part about a vacation is     that it’s vacation! You’re somewhere different, away from home and life’s everyday worries. You can kick back, relax, and smell the suntan lotion!

P.S. I’ve always wanted to be one of those people who plans a different vacation every Summer! My brother and sister-in-law have always been so good at planning fun getaways and always making sure they plan ahead! It gives them something to look forward to and work towards! So, hey… that’s a new goal for my future! :)

I can’t wait to read everyone’s answers! If you take part in Fill in the Blank Friday too, comment and let me know so I can check it out! :) Have a beautiful and safe weekend!!

Fill in the Blank Friday {3}

I feel like I have spent the past twenty-four hours doing blog research. In reality, I spent three of those hours at the midnight premiere of X-Men: First Class. If you like the X-Men movies (like I do, surprisingly) go see it! I really got a kick out of the key cameos :) However, other than that movie, I really feel like I've spent the last day doing blog research. You're probably wondering why. Be looking for a post on that very soon!

For now, it's time to get to Fill in the Blank Friday! Join in on the fun and link up with The Little Things We Do!
  1. I love blogging because      of the freedom I have to write about my life, my thoughts, my experiences, my goals, my worries, and my questions. Because the words and pictures I post on here can trickle out to people all over the entire world! Because I can connect with other people and read about their lives, their thoughts, their experiences, their goals, their worries, and their questions. It's a beautiful concept.
  2. A time that mama knew best was     when she told me I was making the decision to move to Utah too quickly. My mom knows I make decisions based on my heart and not always based on my mind. I disregarded her feelings and opinions and quickly decided on my own to leave behind everything I had ever known. Sure, it was fun and exciting the first three months or so. But that excitement quickly turned to being homesick. Then, it became less about missing home and more about realizing how much home is where my heart is. It's what has shaped me. After years of rebelling and never wanting to listen to my parents' guidance (just because they were my parents), maybe it took me moving across the country to realize they know me better than anyone and... mama always knows best. Always.
  3. My first kiss went a little like this     hmmm, I've never really been one to kiss and tell!
  4. My celebrity crush is     Ryan Gosling. Has been since I was about eight or nine years old and he was on the Mickey Mouse Club. That's right. I was an avid MMC fan and he was my favorite. I even "didn't like" Christina Aguilera because she got to play his crush in a skit. My favorite role of his is probably in Remember the Titans. Just because he's so dang cute & giggly in that whole movie. Excuse me while my heart melts.
  5. My splurge of choice is     chocolate! Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate.
  6. My biggest accomplishment is     moving across the country so quickly? While, looking back, I think it wasn't a smart decision for me as a person, not many people can say they packed up all their stuff and moved to a foreign place (as in, not really knowing anyone or anything there for that matter) far away from everything they've ever known and paid 6 months of rent in advance before they even got there.
  7. My dance jam of choice is     "Jump On It" or the Beverly Hills: 90210 theme song. Something about it just makes me want to do the "Roger Rabbit" all over my house. And you think I'm kidding... YouTube  it right now and get your 90's dance on!
That's it for this week! Hope you had a great (and short) week and have a beautiful weekend! Keep your fingers crossed for me that we might actually get some warm weather here! Pllllease!
