Being the accessory-diva that I am, today’s post is all about necklaces for the bride! I couldn’t resist. While planning my wedding, I knew everything I didn’t want, but didn’t have a clear picture on what I did want. This did not make things any easier. Do you know how lucky brides-to-be are today? Yes, they have the Internet, magazines, bridal blogs, etc. But, NOW they have PINTEREST! I was just saying the other day how I wish Pinterest was up and running last Fall while I was gallivanting around like a chicken with its head cut off just to find wedding inspiration. (It takes a lot of inspiration for indecisive ladies like me!) Speaking of Pinterest, here’s a link to my account :)
So. Necklaces. I like to think that there are four different categories for bridal necklaces. None of them are “wrong” it just simply depends on your personal style.
- Minimalistic
- Traditional
- Substantial
- Statement
Let’s talk about the minimalistic approach first. Minimalistic=no necklace. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Some brides stick to the idea that necklaces take away from the dress and, therefore, don’t wear a necklace. Some say because they are already wearing earrings and a bracelet, they’re doing away with a necklace. This is a personal choice if you ask me. I don’t think you should immediately eliminate a necklace because you’re wearing a bridal gown and I also don’t think you should eliminate a necklace just because you’re wearing other jewelry. Again, this is coming from the girl who LOVES jewelry. Be yourself. If you don’t wear much jewelry on a day-to-day basis, then I can understand wanting to cut back on the bling. What do you think of these minimalistic looks?

Next up, the traditional approach. Simple pearls, a simple diamond. Delicate and pretty.
Then, we have the substantial approach. This is what I chose. I was teetering between the statement and substantial categories and once my mom said, “Well, you don’t want it to take away from your dress!” I knew substantial was the way to go for me! These necklaces have a little bit more to them. Maybe they’re a little thicker, a little longer, have some more texture to them, but aren’t over the top.

Moving on to our last category: statement necklaces. These are growing in popularity. Large, bold, chunky pieces that make a statement! These are the kind of pieces I LOVE everyday, but knew after my mom’s advice and after finding the PERFECT vintage necklace, that I’d be taking the substantial route. Do keep in mind that there’s a reason they are called “statement” necklaces. They make a statement. They could possibly upstage your dress and people might be leaving your wedding saying, “That necklace was gorgeous!” instead of “That dress was gorgeous!” Of course, if it’s your style and you want two bold pieces (the dress AND the necklace) then do it! It all depends on your style and what you want!
I admit, obviously I loved every one of those statement necklaces and wish I had them to wear with an everyday outfit of mine. Sigh.
So, give me your thoughts! Which look out of the four do you prefer? Keep it simple with option 1 or 2 OR jazz it up with option 3 or 4? Decisions, decisions. Of course, consider the neckline of your dress when deciding. Who knows? You could be like me and think you know what you want, and end up going with a different option. Just have to do what feels right :)
