My Summer Style

Well, friends… this weekend, I’m headed to the beach! AND I’m getting paid for it :) My job has some serious perks. I’ll be working a tradeshow there which I am super excited about. There are a bunch of us going and, from what I’ve heard, there is lots of fun to be had. While I’ll be doing my best to look cute in a company polo during the day, the nights will be all about fun, summery, beach clothes! So, I wanted to tell you about two of my favorite fashions this season!

Let’s get started, shall we?

I have become quite the lover of high-low dresses and skirts. I especially love the high-low maxis that go all the way to the ground! I’ll be taking two with me for this trip [a girl has to have her options, okay?] Here are some of the looks that I’m currently adoring:

Peach/coral high-low dress. Love the belt paired with this dress!

I just love the texture and graceful flow of the high-low look!

Wedges are my go-to shoe for the Summer. I could live in wedges. Not even kidding. I’ll be chilling in my sandals while on my feet all day, but wedges are going to be the perfect shoe for a company dinner on the boardwalk. The kind of wedges I go for are not too tall, they’re comfy, and add just the right amount of femininity to any outfit! Here I am wearing my favorite pair:

I wear these Steve Madden wedges all the time. I love them so much that I went back to DSW [while they were on sale] and got a second pair in chocolate brown! You can find those here! I'd recommend going into your nearest DSW to see if they carry other colors because my local store had about 6 different colors! :)

I’ll do my best to take pictures throughout my trip! To follow along [and see which wedges I end up wearing] you can find me on Instagram! [@chelseasunset] I’ll try not to make you too jealous of my room with the ocean view ;)

What are your favorite Summer fashions this season? Which trends are you loving or starting? :) Do tell!

And [drumroll please]... the winner of any bracelet from my Etsy shop, After Sunset is - Holly from Running in Stilettos! Be looking for an email from me soon to discuss details :) Congratulations!!

Summer Pencil Skirts

I wore a skirt to work for the first time yesterday. Well, the first time at this particular job at least. I got pretty lucky with a super casual dress code which I wasn't used to at all. Oh, no. I was used to dress pants, skirt suits, and closed-toed shoes. This job, on the other hand, gives me a lot more freedom which is pretty convenient. However, when I do get to "dress up" a little, I really kick it up a notch. We had an exec coming into the office yesterday so it was my perfect opportunity.

So, a pencil skirt it was! I was pumped. I went with my faux denim pencil skirt from H&M and a V-neck t-shirt. I mean, I couldn't look THAT dressed up.

Here is a similar skirt

I just love pencil skirts. You can wear them in colder weather with tights or wear them in the Summer! You can dress them up with a blouse and heels or dress them down a little with a t-shirt and cute sandals.
Today, I'll be sharing some pencil skirts that I think are perfect for these warmer months. Again, regardless of weather you dress business formal or casual for work, these skirts could be dressed up or down.

And, if you can't tell what my favorite color is by now, it's obviously turquoise. My bad! But, is it not the perfect Summer color? :)

As you can see, there are many different options that are affordable for Summer-esque pencil skirts. Whether you prefer something with a pattern or a solid color to mix and match with different blouses, there's something for everyone.

Are you a pencil skirt lover too? Where have you found your favorites?

Busy, Busy August

Happy Weekend, everyone! This month has been ridiculously busy! It seems like it’s been that way for many of you as well. I say this because of the number of guest posts I’ve been seeing {and writing!} Many people are moving, vacationing, schooling and whew, before we know it, Summer will be over!

But, if you DO get a free second, come visit me over on Alivia’s blog Brunch in April where I’m guest posting about one of my favorite {and dance-related} life lessons! It’s a good one. Promise :)

PS - I want this swimsuit because I love that it’s sea foam, vintage-y, and has the cutest little cut-out!

I hope your weekends are all lovely :)

Fill in the Blank Friday {10}

It’s time to learn more about me and my blanks! I’m glad these blanks revolve around Summer because I know as soon as the icy, blistering cold days hit, I am going to look back at this season with a sigh. I’m linking up with The Little Things We Do, as always :)

Hotel Del

1.  One of my happiest moments ever was     Christmas 2004. Of course, there were the obvious happy moments like the day I graduated from college but I thought I’d choose one that was less obvious. Christmas 2004, I flew out to San Diego with my parents to visit my brother who was living there. It didn’t even matter not waking up with a Christmas tree there that morning because I had my family in one of the most beautiful places in the world. As an added bonus, we went to the Hotel Del Coronado that night to experience the Christmas magic! See above :)

2.  Summer is wedding season and weddings are     beautiful and an event coordinator’s dream :)

3.  This summer     has flown by and I feel like not much has happened. Ahh! I hate the feeling of life passing me by, but I guess we {most of us} have those periods of time in our lives.

4.  My summer food of choice has been     strawberries. I don’t think there has been a time where I don’t have at least one whole container of them in my fridge! I’m not looking forward to the day when I go to the grocery store and see a higher price next to those berries of deliciousness.

5.  My summer uniform has been     Bermuda shorts, sandals, and lots of browns, corals, and golds in my tops and accessories!

6.  If I could spend the entire summer in one location I would choose     San Diego! As much as I love the East Coast and would want to choose there because of my family and friends, I wouldn’t mind staying away from the severe weather and just relaxing on the beach with the Pacific at my feet. And the palm trees. Ohhh, the palm trees!

7.  My summer anthem is    “I Made It” by Kevin Rudolf. Although I haven’t already, this would totally be the song I’d blast in my car with the windows down, sunroof open, and my girls by my side on a warm Summer night :)

WOO HOO for Summer!

This weekend is Pioneer Day here in Utah – the day that “the pioneers arrived in the valley” and, let me tell you, it is HUGE here in Utah. It’s like the 4th of July. Can’t say I could compare the two but hey, here’s to more fireworks this weekend! What are you all up to? I’d love to hear your plans so that I can live vicariously through you :)

Fill in the Blank Friday {8}

Friday is already here? Holiday weekends’ll do that to ya!

As always, I’m linking up with The Little Things We Do for Fill in the Blank Friday! I’m so happy that she’s created this link-up. It’s a great way to reflect and a great way to get to know other bloggers!

Fill in the Blank

  1. My plans this summer include     spending my days inside hiding from spiders and the sun. The spiders because I’m terrified and the sun because it’s about time to start taking care of this skin of mine! Andddd that’s about it.
  2. The best summer I ever had was     probably the summer of 2007. It was my last summer teaching dance camps {which I still miss}, I had some of the best times with the greatest and craziest friends, and spent a good deal of time at home with family. It was my last official summer in college and it was definitely full of memories and traveling.
  3. Summer is     not as much fun as it used to be? For me, at least. Summers in elementary school were filled with looking forward to the Summer reading list being released, going to the pool every day and playing kickball with the neighborhood kids while waiting to be called in for dinner. Summers in high school were filled with driving for the first time with the windows down, going to the movies with 15 friends, and then hopping around from house to house until your curfew. Summers in college were filled with beach trips every weekend, spending each night out on the patio, and seeing places and states I had never seen before. Looking back, I had such great summers that I’m so grateful for.
  4. My favorite summer food is      strawberries. They go with so much! You can have strawberries on cereal, strawberries on dessert, strawberries in a wrap, strawberries in a drink, or even just strawberries alone! Delicious and healthy and {cheap in the Summer!}
  5. The best way to quench a summer thirst is with     a Shirley Temple :) Or a Bula :) Light, fruity, with a little fizz!
  6. My summer uniform consists of     Bermuda shorts and a short-sleeved top with lots of jewelry and some cute sandals. It’s changed quite drastically within the past two years…
  7. The best thing about summer is     the warm weather after roughly 7 months of Winter in Utah? I don’t know. I have to admit, this Summer doesn’t feel like “Summer” right now. Between the stress I’ve endured for months over the job industry to the relentless longing for home and friends, not a day passes by where I’m content. It’s a heavy subject really and certainly not something I want to drag down this light Summery topic with, but just know that my mind is on untouchable Summer things – like vacationing in a new spot, setting up new patio furniture, going to BBQ’s with friends, or bopping into a museum to get out of the sticky DC humidity. Those are the places my mind ventures to this Summer, knowing they’re so far out of touch.

While I know most people’s fill in the blanks this week will consist of all things sunshine and flip-flops and being carefree, my Summer this year is a little different. But don’t worry, while I’m standing on the sidelines, I’ll be cheering you all on and living vicariously through your vacation, party, and beautiful family festivity pictures :)

The summer does remind me of two things that I love though: salt air and sunsets.

Summer Sunset

Remember, life is a sunset. Each day brings new colors, new images, and moves at a different pace. As the day ends and the sun disappears, we know a new day will soon rise, giving us new opportunities and yet again, a new sunset.

Wishing you all a peaceful and relaxing weekend.

Coral Craze

I admit it, I am color-obsessed! I love bright colors year-round so, obviously, the Summer is no exception. Turquoise and teal are my favorite colors/shades and I sport them everyday with my wallet, make-up bag, cell phone cover, sunglasses, etc. However, my go-to Summer color this year is CORAL!!

I got a little Pinterest happy and re-pinned a whole lotta coral which I wanted to share with you! Some of these corals are a little more orangey and some are a little more pinky :)

Coral

I think coral is a great color for Summer (and even Spring!) You find a lot of it in the malls, boutiques, and even in antique stores. It’s a classic color that is seen a lot in my wardrobe whether through blouses, jewelry, or even just my nail polish! Speaking of which…

Coral

I think I have more “coral-y” colors than any other color in my nail polish collection. It goes with so much – brown, gold, aqua, yellow, white, black, lavender, etc. As you can tell in the above pictures, coral really makes neutrals POP!

Here are a couple other Pinterest favorites from the week:

I don’t know what it is about me and foxes. How cute is that picture?

Anyway, what’s your go-to Summer color? Do tell!
