Casting for Ana Steele

It has been far too long since there’s been any mention of Fifty Shades of Grey on this blog! I have finished all three books now and have those same withdrawals that so many of you have spoken of. Sigh. I absolutely love all the feedback I am still getting on my Casting for Christian Grey post! The thing is, I wrote that post when I was only on Book One so I hadn’t really truly seen the full spectrum and all 50 shades of our leading man, Mr. Grey. Which means,  a follow-up post is in the works!

Today, however, we are talking about Anastasia Steele. Now, let me start off by saying that I already feel as though this film is going to be tough – especially for the screenwriter. I have no idea just how much of the books [as far as scenes go] they will have to remove. I know this scares many of us readers because we obviously want the film to do justice to the books. I’m also nervous to find out who ends up getting cast as Christian and Ana. It could really make or break it for me [and I’m sure I’m not the only one.]

That said, I have one person in mind for Ana. That’s it – just one. I thought of her at the beginning and even after reading all three books, she’s still the one I choose. I’ve perused the articles, blog posts, and pins on Pinterest about who everyone wants to play Ana and there are some good suggestions. Here is mine:

Since the books are written in Ana’s perspective, I thought it would be best to stick with someone who is relatable; someone you could see yourself just going out to lunch with. Because to me, that’s the kind of girl Ana was in the books – just your somewhat typical, girl-next-door.

So, for that reason, I’d choose Jessica Stroup. I’d also choose her because of how much she matches the physical description of Ana. Brunette, big, blue eyes, full bottom lip [without being overly full], slender, soft, light skin.

Aside from looks, I think she definitely has what it takes from an acting standpoint as well. I think she has a great range - from being awkward and funny to stubborn and confident or vulnerable and kind-hearted. She'd make an amazing Ana. Plus, she's not super well-known for one role in particular which I think would work out well in her favor.

So, I vote Jessica Stroup for Anastasia Steele!

Now, let's open up the can of worms :)
Who do YOU want to play Anastasia Steele?

You are completely RIGHT, she would be such a great Ana! And I'm already thinking about reading the books again and I just finished them a week ago.....soooo good!

I can't say that I even thought about her to play Ana but I COMPLETELY agree. She definitely fits the physical description. I'm a little behind on the books. It took me a bit longer to jump on the Fifty Shades train! Just started number 3 yesterday!

I have never even heard of her but she would be good! I said mila kunis! but the casting will make it or break it for me and how much they have to cut out which I know will be alot. I just don't think the movie will ever do justice. i just gave a friend the books to read and I was thinking oh how I miss them.

Your pick is PERFECT! I have so much trouble thinking of an Ana. I think Ashley Greene would make a good Ana, except she is already pretty well known. I just think she has the same relatable feel you want for Ana. I think your pick wins though

I've never even heard of her, but she looks exactly like the book describes! I think my second pick would have to be "Aria" from Pretty Little Liars, but she doesn't have blue eyes!

My first pick for Ana was Lucy Hale! I adore her, and she has that "girl next door" look to her... But now I'm just not sure... your girl Jessica Stroup would be the perfect Ana!!

I'm only partway through the first book, but I keep picturing Emily Browning {she was blonde in the movie Sucker Punch, but she's a natural brunette} for the part.

But I agree with you - Jessica Stroup would be pretty good as Ana, too!!

I blogged a while back and picked Alexis Bledel (think Gilmore girls and sisterhood of travelling pants girl) In the book the author is very frank in stating that "Ana" is not a "drop dead gorgeous" girl..she is very plain Jane if you will. (I always think Katie Holmes when it comes to actresses that are obviously good at acting but not so "hot" in the physical looks department if that makes sense" haha :)

Oh my gosh, I never considered her! She looks the part--she could do very girl next door with just a little bit of makeup, then get glammed up for the dress up parts. I vote yes!

She is a good choice. I'm a big fan of Kate Mara from American Horror Story.

She would be an awesome Ana!!!!! Good pick!!

I love the idea of Shailene Woodley as Ana. A producer has been named and it's a good choice. I don't think we will have to worry about it being campy like Twilight!

I like her as your pick but I have to be honest I can only picture her as Silver on 90210! I pictured Ana as Anna Hendricks the whole time but she may be too bubbly for the role!

I have read all three books, and definately agree with you Chelsea. I have wanted Jessica Stroup to be Ana since the beginning, and Matt Bomer to play Christian!!!

Jessica Stroup= Anastasia Steele
Matt Bomer= Christian Grey.

I've never even heard of this actress but I LOVE her look and think she would make a perfect Ana! I am nervous however how these movies are going to turn out considering they will have to cut some pretty big chunks out
